Inherited from Middle Bengali দহী (dohi), from Prakrit 𑀤𑀳𑀺𑀅 (dahia), from Sanskrit দধিক (dadhika).[1] Doublet of দধি (dodhi), ধান (dhan), and ধেনু (dhenu).
