Etymology

Inherited from Magadhi Prakrit 𑀭𑀸𑀠 (rāḍha) (reborrowed into Sanskrit as राढा (rāḍhā)); further origin disputed. Possibly from the voiced lenition of an earlier *𑀭𑀸𑀞 (*rāṭha), degeminated from an even earlier 𑀭𑀸𑀝𑁆𑀞 (rāṭṭha), from Sanskrit राष्ट्र (rāṣṭra, dominion, kingdom, country, people).[1] Or possibly, borrowed from a pre-Aryan substrate language (like Munda).

  • (Dhaka) IPA(key): /ɹaɹ/,
  • Audio:(file)
