Etymology 1
This etymology is missing or incomplete. Please add to it, or discuss it at the Etymology scriptorium. Particularly: “Not given etymology by STEDT (ta "measure with a ta ( 'cord' )"), and not mentioned by Luce 1981. Seems to be related to Proto-Kuki-Chin*taʔ(“to gauge, measure”) (whence Mizoteh(“to measure”)), and probably has further relations across Sino-Tibetan, though due to the very phonologically deficient formation, further cognates are difficult to deduce. That said, looks like it might be from the same word family that gives Old Chinese圖 (OC *daː, “diagram; to plot, plan; to draw”).”
(historical) unit of distance measure (equal to four cubits as in ကုလလေး(ku.la.le:) or အရညကင်(a.ra.nya.kang), seven cubits as in မြင်းမိုရ်(mrang:muir) or ten cubits as in စက္ကဝါ(cakka.wa)
