From Proto-Lolo-Burmese *takᴴ (“sharp”), from Proto-Tibeto-Burman *m-tak (“sharp”). Cognate with Rawang taq and Naxi tal (STEDT). Luce additionally gives Old Chinese 畟 (OC *sklɯɡ, *skʰrɯɡ, “sharp, clear, distinct”) as a cognate.[1]
