Etymology 1

From Proto-Lolo-Burmese *taŋ¹ ~ *m-daŋ² (to think, feel an emotion); cognate with Lahu (dɔ³, to think) (STEDT). Luce apparently compares Old Chinese (OC *rleŋ, *l'eŋs, “to manifest”), though the phonetics of the Old Chinese reconstruction make a relation uncertain.[1]
