Mon
Etymology
Origin unclear. This term appears as verb as well as adverb in Middle Mon, but is not attested in Old Mon. Compare Old Burmese (plan) (> Burmese ပြန် (pran, “to return, to do again”)). Shorto (1971) suggests that it might be a borrowing from Burmese လန် (lan, “to be turned up”) made into a causative formation (i.e. a Mon equivalent of Burmese လှန် (hlan, “to turn inside out”)).[1][2]
