Burmese
Pronunciation
Etymology 1
From Proto-Lolo-Burmese *s/g-(y/r)a (“to seek, search, look for”), with no certain cognates outside of Lolo-Burmese (STEDT). Luce adduces Old Chinese 搜 (OC *sru, “to seek, look for”) as a cognate, which appears reasonable given the semantics and Old Chinese reconstruction.[1]
Despite similar modern pronunciations, almost certainly unrelated to Korean 찾 (chat, “to find”).
