From Old Georgian ბაგაჲ (bagay), from Proto-Georgian-Zan *baga-[1] or Proto-Kartvelian *bag-.[2] Cognate with Mingrelian ბოგა (boga, plank foodbridge; floor of pen, cattleshed, stall), Laz ბოგა (boga, sheep, goat pen), and possibly Svan ბაგ (bag, stall). Doublet of ბოგა (boga) and ბოგირი (bogiri, footbridge).
