Etymology

From Middle Georgian ლაპარაკი (laṗaraḳi), borrowed from Old Armenian հրապարակ (hraparak, public place, public square; assembly, the public). Doublet of ურაკპარაკი (uraḳṗaraḳi). For the sense development compare Old Armenian հրապարակախօսեմ (hraparakaxōsem, to recite in public). All these forms ultimately derive from Northwestern Iranian *fra-pāδaka-, likely composed of roots from Proto-Iranian *fra- (toward, forward) and *pā́dah (foot).
