According to Klimov, from Proto-Kartvelian *q̇le (penis).[1] Čuxua together with dialectal Georgian ღლავი (ɣlavi, young boy) derives from Proto-Kartvelian *ɣlaw-; for the word-initial Svan () ~ Georgian (ɣ) correspondence, compare Proto-Kartvelian *q̇wiz₁-, *q̇welp-.[2]
