Compound of (, used phonetically) +‎ (so, chemical element). First used by Morisaburō Ichikawa in Rika Nikki (1872).[1] was used by Shiba Ryōkai in Shichiyaku Shinsetsu (1860) as 沃顛[2] and by Heijirō Takehara in Kagaku Nyūmon (1867–1870) as 沃陳(ヨヂウム) from Dutch jodium.
