即事

1. (literary) to perform one's work; to be at one's duty; to take part in an activity

   • 宣子辭焉，使即事於會，成愷悌也。 [Classical Chinese, trad.]

     From: Commentary of Zuo, c. 4^th century BCE

     Xuānzǐ cí yān, shǐ jíshì yú huì, chéng kǎitì yě.

     Xuanzi (of Fan) apologised to him (Juzhi) and invited him to participate in the convention, so that his reputation as a "graceful and courteous lord" could be preserved.

     From: Mozi, c. 4^th century BCE

     Bǎiguān gòngcái, bǎigōng jíshì, sīmǎ shì chéng xiū zúwǔ.

     The officials share (a common collection of) resources; the artisans and workers perform (their respective) jobs; and the military officers inspect the fortification and train the troops.
