Chinese
Etymology 1
In its earliest known usage, found in the Treatise on Physiology 《全體新論》 by Benjamin Hobson , it referred to any of the four chambers of the heart. This word was then transmitted from Chinese to Japanese as 心房 (shinbō), where the meaning narrowed to refer only to the atrium. This narrowed meaning was then brought back into Chinese by the 20th century (Huang, 2020b).
