Or from Proto-Sino-Tibetan *brawŋ (“wild yak, buffalo”) (STEDT, Boodberg 1937, Schuessler, 2007), cognate with Tibetan འབྲོང ('brong, “wild yak”), Burmese ပြောင် (praung, “gaur”).
