  Clam (蚌蛤). The Garden of Assembled Names gives 蚌蛤. (Alternative Chinese character readings include 蚌 (bàng) and 蜯 (bàng). The Japanese name is called famaguri) This singular name is used in grain soups.

Compound of 浜 (hama, “beach”) +‎ 栗 (kuri, “chestnut”).^[1][2][3] The kuri changes to guri as an instance of rendaku (連濁).
