Originally borrowed from Ainu サㇰイベ (sak ibe, salmon, literally “summer + eat”, in reference to how the fish would be caught and eaten in the summer),[1] or possible alternative unattested compound *サㇰエㇷ゚ (sak ep, literally summer + food).[2]
