First attested in the Samgang haengsildo (三綱行實圖 / 삼강행실도), 1511. as Middle Korean 기도ᇰ (kitwong), from older suffixless form 긷 (kit) (First attested in the Hunminjeong'eum haerye (訓民正音解例 / 훈민정음해례), 1446.).
