Etymology

Of native Korean origin. 문드리다 (mundeurida, “to drop”) +‎ 지다 (jida, passive-marking suffix).

문드리다 (mundeurida) is not attested independently in mainland Korean sources, and now survives only in Jeju and in this derived verb.

문드러지다 • (mundeureojida) (infinitive 문드러져 or 문드러지어, sequential 문드러지니)

to fester and drop off (especially of flesh)
