량산(量産) (ryangsan) |
Sino-Korean word from 梁山.
Renamed in 1413 from earlier 양주 (梁州, Yangju) in order to restrict the use of the character 주 (州, ju, “district”) to large and important towns, replacing it with 산 (山, san, “hill, mountain”). 양주 (梁州, Yangju) was itself an orthographic renaming in 940 of former 양주 (良州, Yangju), short for the Silla placename 삽량주 (揷良州, Samnyangju) which was adopted in 665 CE.
