Old Turkic

Etymology

Clauson suggest that it might ultimately be derived from Ancient Greek Κ (K, kappa) through intermediaries. According to Clauson, the circle that Ancient Greek Δ (D, delta) had become in Asia was unsuitable for this script which is why the inventor chose to derive it from a variant of Κ (K, kappa).

In an older study, he also suggests Ancient Greek Χ (Kh, chi) and gives the reason that the inventor ran out of homophonic models.
