From the Proto-Indo-European thematic singular genitive ending *-osyo, taken over from the pronominal declension. Cognate with Sanskrit -अस्य (-asya), Old Persian (-ahyā), Homeric Ancient Greek -οιο (-oio), Old Latin -osio, Faliscan -osio and Lepontic (-oiso).
