Korean

Etymology

장(匠) (jang, workman) +‎ (-i, agentive noun suffix), with umlaut on the first syllable triggered by the vowel /-i/. Umlaut is not extremely characteristic of Seoul Korean, suggesting that the suffix was borrowed from an umlauting dialect such as the Gyeongsang dialect. The regular Seoul form is 장이 (jang'i), not usually used nowadays.
