Etymology
The city was originally named Abaeté, ultimately from Old Tupi abaeté (“honorable man”). In 1943, the name was changed by the adition of tyba to avoid confusion with a homonymous city, thus creating the new compound abaetetyba (“honorable men gathering”).[1][2]
