First attested as Ameliastein, gemeenlyk het huis in 't Viaensche Bosch geheten in 1725. Compound of Amalia (a personal name) and stein (“stone building, castle”). Named after a former castle built by Hendrik van Brederode (1531-1568) for his wife, Amalia von Neuenahr.
