ankka (“duck”) + lammikko (“pond”), calque of Swedish Ankdammen (“duck pond”), coined as an allegory of Sweden by Ian Wachtmeister in his book with this title. While more or less forgotten in Sweden, the term has been adopted first by the Swedish-speaking minority of Finland and then by the Finnish-speaking majority as referring to Swedish Finland as a cultural entity.
