Etymology
Only attested in Tolkien’s earlier conception of the language (‘Noldorin’). Diegetically explained as inherited from Primitive Elvish *nyadrō with an irregular loss of d (the expected development is attested in an archaic variant nadhor), from a root *nyad- (‘to gnaw’), and so cognate with Quenya nyarro.
Noun
nâr • 5~C6 (plural nair)
- rat
