Category talk:English inflection templates
In use?
This category has no items. Is it supposed to hold templates like {{en-noun-reg}} or is it deprecated? Rodasmith 20:19, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

Apparently, the naming format Category:Foo inflection templates is widely used to represent the headword below the L3 header; in addition, Category:Foo conjugation templates and Category:Foo declension templates are only used for tables.
I would prefer this format to be changed, because it is inaccurate and not intuitive.
Alternatively, Ancient Greek headword templates are in Category:Ancient Greek POS templates, which technically would merge the functionalities of the three aforementioned category names.
If such merger is not desirable, perhaps better names would be Category:Foo headword templates, Category:Foo declension table templates and Category:Foo conjugation table templates.
I'd like to raise some specific issues related to the table/line problem, which may be fixed by renaming the related categories:
- The template that displays English verb conjugations (Template:en-verb) is not in Category:English conjugation templates but in Category:English inflection templates. So, Template:en-verb is not directly related to Category:Conjugation templates by language.
- English interjections do not have inflections, but Template:en-interj is in Category:English inflection templates.
- Similarly, Template:ja-noun, Template:el-prefix and various other templates for non-inflectable parts of speech are placed in categories named after "inflection templates".
- The Template:la-noun displays declension but is not in Category:Latin declension templates.

- "Category:English inflection templates" means "Category:English inflection-line templates". Renaming "Category:English inflection templates" to "Category:English inflection-line templates" could be in order. --Dan Polansky 15:48, 16 September 2010 (UTC)

- I would like to raise a number of points:
- 1. The consensus reached was amongst an extremely small electorate (I never knew that this page existed). The logic behind some of this may be unanswerable - but more people needed to know.
- 2. I have just discovered that Greek conjugation templates had moved to Category:Greek conjugation-table templates four weeks ago - had no one thought of changing all links in the documentation to the old category? (nb "Template:el-conj-'είμαι'" had been left in the old/deleted category.)
- 3. I am not quite so sure about the need to change "declension/conjugation" to "declension/conjugation-table" - please explain
- 4. The voting system may be extremely tedious - but this change should have been brought to more people's attention, especially those with a specific interest.

- The template
{{el-verb}}displays Greek conjugations, therefore it is by definition a "Greek conjugation template". - However, the standard practice was only placing conjugation tables into Category:Greek conjugation templates. Therefore,
{{el-verb}}should never be a member of that category. - The name of the category was misleading; so, we should either change its name, or change the practices to allow
{{el-verb}}to be a member of it. - In this discussion, we chose to change the name of the category. Category:Greek conjugation-table templates by definition does not include
{{el-verb}}.
