One might require not just mere non-identity, though, but a sort of unexpectedness or comparative unexplicability. This can be formalized along at least two directions. The strong emergence of a property of a model requires that the property must also be not sufficiently similar to the properties of the models of the comparison class-it is unexpected because it is not even similar (in the relevant ways) to the properties available for consideration from the comparison class.
