First attested as dintre in 1139. Etymology unknown. Several compound derivations have been proposed, ranging from a compound of Old Dutch *dint (strike, blow) and *heri (sandy ridge) to a derivation from Old Dutch *Dindo (a personal name) with an unknown second element and a derivation from Latin dent (dent, blow). None of these proposed etymologies fit the oldest attestation. Currently part of the twin village of Heeswijk-Dinther.
