Etymology
First attested as erbeke in 1046. Originally a hydronym of uncertain etymology. Potentially a compound of Old Dutch erd (“earth, clay, agricultural land”) and beek (“brook, creek”). After the hydronym began to be applied to the settlement, the watercourse next to the village was renamed to Eerbeekse Beek. Compare Erp.
