Hsinchuang township lies within the Taipei basin on the north side of the Tamshui River. Most of the township consists of flat alluvial land used for rice paddy. Although the township is situated a short distance north of the main railroad from Taipei to Kaohsiung, it is directly located on one of the main highways leading southwest from Taipei, and frequent buses travel to and from Taipei.
