Etymology
From *Inger + -e. Further etymology unknown, although similar river names are also found from further east in Northern Russia, like Ингерь (Ingerʹ), Ингирь (Ingirʹ) (both in Kostroma Oblast) and Ингрия (Ingrija) (in Tikhvinsky District).[1] One possibility is a borrowing from a West Uralic language (possibly "language X" (x-kieli), a lost West Uralic substrate found in place names, or Meryan), from a word akin to Eastern Mari эҥер (eŋer), Western Mari ӓнгӹр (ängÿr, “stream”). The parish is named after the river.
