First attested as lambrechtscoch around 1312. Compound of the name of Saint Lambert of Maastricht and Middle Dutch coge (land located outside of a levee, land next to a watercourse). The second element was gradually reinterpreted to schage (copse) under the influence of nearby Schagen.
