Etymology
(generally): From Old Czech lazce, a plural form of lazec, which is a diminutive of Old Czech laz (“land acquired by forest burning”). Compare also other Czech toponyms Laz, Lazy, Lazníky or Lažany.[1]
(quarter of Olomouc): The oldest written mention of the name of the place is from 1298, when the settlement was called in singular Lasecz. The singular was used solely until the end of the 14 century (in 1398 spelled Lazecz), later plural forms Lazky (the descendant of which was the German name of the place Laska) and today's Lazce occurred.[2]
(village near Troubelice): Originally in the singular form Laz (1343), later plural form Lazy (1371 and 1492). The diminutive form Lazce appeared in 1545 for the first time. Some other later forms included Lasce, Lazy or Laze.[3]
