Potentially attested as early as 1364 as livelo, attested with certainty in 1785 as Lieveld. Etymology uncertain. Compound of an unclear first component (perhaps Middle Dutch Live (a personal name)) and veld (field). The second component was initially lo (light forest on sandy soil), but was gradually replaced by veld. Compare Harreveld and Saasveld.
