Mei- + lahti; from the byname/nickname of Meil-Bengt Jakobsson, who owned a farm called Mejlans in the area. Mejlans remains the Swedish name for the neighborhood today. The byname/nickname may be in reference to Meilby, a village around what is now Seutula. The Meil- part may be an anthroponym Meile from some German language.[1]
