Peter Bakker (2020) “Para-Romani varieties”, in Yaron Matras, Anton Tenser, editors, The Palgrave Handbook of Romani Language and Linguistics, Palgrave Macmillan, →ISBN, page 378:
"We can exclude, on both socio-historical and linguistic grounds, that PR varieties are the result of pidginization or creolization. Unlike in the case of pidgins, there were no longer-lasting situations where Gypsies and non-Gypsies lacked a common language, as both Romani (internally) and the host language (for external communication) were widely available. Neither do PR varieties display regularization and reduction as is commonly observed in pidgins and creoles."
