Etymology
According to Giovani Cherini's book "A origem do nome dos municípios" (literally "The origin of the name of municipalities"), the name "Parobé" is a tribute to João José Pereira Parobé, an engineer who helped build the local railway, which connected the nearby cities of Novo Hamburgo, Taquara, and Canela.[1] Parobé's Wikipedia page has more in depth informations in Portuguese.
According to Silveira Bueno's dictionary of Tupi-Guarani, the engineer's surname can be analysed, on surface analysis, as coming from Nheengatu ypá (“pond”) + robe (“bitter”).[2]
