Found specifically in the expression einen Pik auf jemanden haben ( “ to bear a grudge against someone ” ) , a calque of German Low German enen Pik up jemand hebben , in turn borrowed from French être en pique avec quelqu’un ; compare English pique . This phrase is no longer in use in German; the adjective pikiert is better-known.
