Borrowed from Old Median *spiθrah, from Proto-Iranian *cwiθráh, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *ćwitrás. Doublet of *siçah (white), whence borrowing Sanskrit सीस (sī́sa, lead). Cognate with Sanskrit श्वित्र (śvitrá, white, whitish).[1]
