Proto-Chukotko-Kamchatkan
Etymology
Apparently found only in the Chukotkan branch. In Chukchi and Kerek it is augmented with the singulative suffix.
Bogoraz (1937) also reports Chukchi пычагтува- (pəčaɣ-tuwa-, “to take off boots”), in which the first part may be an incorporated element descending from this root. In fact, generally Proto-Chukotko-Kamchatkan *l > Chukchi l, but it often alternates with č.
Noun
*pəlæk
- boots (possibly made of reindeer skin)
