Unknown. Possibly a Baltic or Balto-Slavic borrowing (compare Bulgarian кълка (kǎlka, thigh), Serbo-Croatian kuk (hip), and Proto-Slavic *kъlkъ).[1] Alternatively possibly from Proto-Uralic *külke, if cognate with Proto-Samoyedic *kəj.[2]
