Proto-Finnic

Etymology

Possibly by regular metathesis from earlier *rawsa, borrowed from either Proto-Germanic (compare Middle Dutch kroos (innards)) or Proto-Germanic (compare German Gekröse (innards)). The main issue with this etymology is finding parallels for the metathesis; *kasvadak (? < *kawsa-) has been proposed, but is uncertain. Compare *rauha (gland) (possibly from earlier *rawša), in which no metathesis appears to have taken place (possibly due to the different consonant or a different time of borrowing).
