Proto-Slavic
Etymology
Commonly considered an extension of *dьrati (“to tear, to flay”) + *-pati, ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *derH- (“to tear”). Likely akin to Ancient Greek δρώπτω (drṓptō, “to gaze, to look”), Ancient Greek δρέπω (drépō, “to reap, to harvest”) and Sanskrit दर्पण (darpaṇa, “mirror”). Possibly also related to Proto-Germanic *trabō (“fringe”).
