Further origin: either onomatopoeic, coined on Balto-Slavic soil, or derived from Proto-Indo-European *plek- (to hit, to strike; to flatten) + *-skъ. Related to Lithuanian pleškė́ti (to knock), Latvian plekšêt (to trample, to knock).
