Etymology

From *müi- +‎ *-kī. Relationship to Proto-Mongolic *mogaï (snake) (whence Mongolian могой (mogoj)) is unclear.

Perhaps the forms such as Negidal мӣхи- (mīxi-, to creep) and Udihe мики- (miki-, to creep) are heavily influenced by this word, or either a cognate; however they both inherited from *mirkü- (to creep).
