Proto-Ugric

Etymology

A borrowing from an Indo-European language, likely Old Iranian. Ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *septḿ̥. The lack of a regular vowel-correspondence between Hungarian hét (<<*ét) and Proto-Ob-Ugric *θääpet * (as well as the irregular s- in Mansi) suggest that this word was borrowed separately into Proto-Hungarian and Proto-Ob-Ugric.

Numeral

*säptɜ
