- @Chuterix, since Proto-Japonic /i/ is also reflected as Japanese and Ryukyuan /i/, there is no apparent reason to reconstruct this with a medial /e/. Given also the propensity for reduplication in Japonic word formation, /memi/ is circumstantially less likely than /mimi/.
