This works as Proto-Iranian better. It has a Indo-European connection and analogy with other words parallelling its shape. And it is spread in the remotest areas of the Iranian language area, appearing native, with semantics fitting Iranian panthea, while the Semitic words are since qway deemed peculiar and probably borrowed. All is argued in Panaino, Antonio (2017) “The Origins of Middle Persian Zamān and Related Words: A Controversial Etymological History”, in Iran & the Caucasus, volume 21, number 2, Leiden: Brill, , pages 150–195, where page 153 it is also noted: “This situation, notwithstanding the evidence of the sources, is partly due to the distance between the works of the (Indo-) Iranists and those of the Semitists, who seem to ignore each other.” The Wiktionary page was created before this article, probably in consequence of a listing a Proto-Semitic by the Moscow School, that ignores much and of course reconstructs a Proto-Afroasiatic root on thin evidence, just like it reconstructs a word for “big knife” on the basis of the Persian loanword Arabic سِيخ (sīḵ, “spit”).
