First attested as rewike in 1280-1287. Compound of Middle Dutch ree (“alignment, boundary line, boundary ditch”) and wyc (“farmstead, village, settlement”) or wyc (“inlet, side channel”). The element dorp (“village”) was added later to distinguish the settlement from Reeuwijk-Brug.
